Windows up at Assembly Hall as we head to October dedication

We're in the homestretch of the renovation of what will soon be known as the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

The name change for the home of Indiana University basketball came about after a December, 2013 announcement that Cynthia "Cindy" Simon Skjodt would donate $40 million for renovation of the building.

Construction crews have been busy on the south side entrance in an effort to have the work completed this fall. The latest development is the addition of new windows to that entrance as shown in the photo below taken earlier today.

Dedication date now set

"I don't know if we have announced it yet but the dedication will be October 14th during homecoming weekend for football," Indiana's athletic director Fred Glass said earlier this month during the University's annual tailgate tour stop at Huber Farms in Borden, Indiana.

This year's homecoming at Memorial Stadium will be Indiana football's first ever Big Ten clash against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, October 15th. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. E.T.

Glass is definitely looking forward to showing off the improvements.

"I don't want to oversell it but I don't think you can," he said. "It is a very fan centered renovation. The comforts of home like concession stands and restrooms--we are almost doubling the number of restrooms, all the restrooms will be remodeled.

"The brand new entryway will be a "wow" piece. Giant LED screens. We'll be incorporating some historic pieces of former venues into the building.

"I think it is something our fans will be very excited about. A giant new jumbotron. Replacing all the non-bleacher seats. Those permeable seats and all the grossness that had seeped into them, those are all out. I think from top to bottom it will be a great experience for our fans."
