Troy Williams "super confident" he gets drafted if he stays in the draft

Troy Williams said today he is “super confident” that he will be selected in the June NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-7 Indiana forward worked out today for the Indiana Pacers, the first of his seven scheduled workouts.

Williams said he is scheduled to workout for the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday and the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.

He has seven NBA workouts schedules all together, his uncle Boo Williams told peegs.com.

Williams has until May 25 to decide whether to stay in the draft or withdraw and return to Indiana for his senior season.

“As I play on the court, I play impulsive, so I’m not really trying to wait that long,” Williams said. “I’m trying to get it over with, but at the same time, I still want to talk it out and be patient.”

Williams participated in the NBA Draft Combine last week.

Williams believes he will be drafted if he stays in the draft.

“I’m super confident. Great reviews, great positive things, now it falls on me,” he said after his Pacers workout.

Are teams looking at you in the first round?

“With some teams, yeah. With some teams, no,” Williams said.

At the Combine, Williams interviewed with 10 teams, including Milwaukee, Utah, Lakers, Miami, Dallas, Portland, Memphis, Houston and Atlanta.

The key advisors for Williams are Boo Williams, former NBA player and coach and current basketball trainer John Lucas and Boo Williams’ sister and Troy’s aunt, Terri Williams-Flournoy.

Williams mentioned Cody Zeller and Noah Vonleh as former IU players in the NBA he can talk to. Williams knows other NBA players as well.

As far as feedback from the combine, Williams said it was “really things I already knew,” such as better decision making at times and improved shooting and defense.

“I learned that the athleticism part of my game is a key role in the NBA. Not a lot of people come in with as much athleticism as I have and still able to run the court and do multiple things in multiple ways,” he said.

Williams said he remains in good academic standing and knows he would be welcomed back at IU should he chose to return. He said has a couple classes and an internship to complete for his degree.

“The positives are that we have great recruits. We have great freshmen coming in. We’ve got a great transfer coming in, great people,” he said. “It’ll be a top-10 team for sure.”

Williams said the addition of junior college forward Freddie McSwain has no impact on his decision.

“I don’t even know much about. I know he committed. I know him as a person, but other than that, I don’t know much.”

Williams said he appreciates all the information and guidance he receives from IU coach Tom Crean.

“We stay in touch all the time,” Williams said. “We have a great relationship, on and off the court.”

YOGI FERRELL UPDATE

Indiana point guard Yogi Ferrell worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday and works out for the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.
